My writing career began in 1993 when I was a freelance reporter for a couple of daily and weekly newspapers.
In 1995, I moved over to PR where I specialized in media relations but often edited and proofread press releases,
blogs, bylined articles and new business proposals. I now run my own proofreading business where my job is
making sure various documents and web content are free of typos, misspelled words or grammatical mistakes,
especially before a potential client spots them.
One reason to hire a good proofreader is this. Typos, misspelled words or incorrect grammar can rub some folks
the wrong way. They may wonder if the employee writing the content is uneducated. They may assume a vendor
doesn’t care enough to pay attention to detail, whether it’s content or another aspect of its operation. Even if
these assumptions are overblown, they’re still a threat to your bottom line.
